The race of warrior angels known as the Ben-Elim, who fought alongside the humans and giants to victory, now rule from their fortress of Drassil, hunting down the remnants of their enemy. Peace had finally come to the Land of the Faithful, following the defeat of Kadoshim hordes led by their commander Asroth. Thankfully, you don’t have to be familiar with anything that happened before, since this story is designed in such a way that even newcomers like me could pick it up with ease. Set in the same world as Gwynne’s previous series, this novel takes place approximately 120 years after Wrath, its concluding volume. However, I am glad I was able to read his new book, A Time of Dread, which is the start of a new trilogy called Of Blood and Bone. Now I wish I had jumped on board his Faithful and the Fallen series when I had the chance. This was my first time reading John Gwynne, and wow, he is the real deal, folks. This does not affect the contents of my review and all opinions are my own. I received a review copy from the publisher. Book Review: A Time of Dread by John Gwynne

Now she must begin a whole new life of submission to her new master, giving herself body and soul without reservation…or suffer the punishment for her disobedience. So when Aiden James calls her out of the crowd, picking her over every other single female in the supernatural community, Emma doesn’t know what to think. Not that she would want to be-what girl in her right mind would volunteer to be a sex slave for a year, giving up the rights to her own body and sexuality to a dominating male who likes to bite? Not Emma, that’s for sure. So she figures there’s no way she’ll be chosen as the Bloodlust Sacrifice for the new vampire Sovereign. Not only that but she’s full figured instead of thin, like her gorgeous, talented cousins, and has dishwater brown hair and muddy hazel eyes to match. A witch without power meets a vampire lord with a taste for domination.Emma Krist is the Sacrifice Emma Krist is a dud-a person from a powerful line of witches with no magic of her own. “Larry stood up and basically said that the strike was pretty dumb,” Reinsdorf recalls. Then there was the time Reinsdorf took a shot at Lucchino, who had purchased the Padres in ’94, during the strike. Helyar quotes him as saying, “Baseball is the only industry where I have to pay someone what my dumbest competitor pays.” That’s similar to a quote I remember from a Sports Illustrated profile of Reinsdorf in 1997: If he’s not the smartest person in the room, he’s the most aware of how foolish the room can be, which is its own kind of intelligence. Reinsdorf cuts a distinct figure in the second half of “Lords,” after he arrives on the scene as the new owner of the Chicago White Sox in 1981. As I made my way through John Helyar’s “Lords of the Realm” during the public, contentious negotiations between Major League Baseball and the MLBPA, I kept wondering if we’d soon see in real time the Jerry Reinsdorf captured in the book. Lola needs more than a pack to shield her. One way or another, he’s determined to get his hands on her again. Lola is quickly realizing that her worst enemy is herself, and it’s like walking the tightrope to find a balance with the pack that gives her strength rather than sends her toppling to the ground. If only it weren’t just one monstrous alpha that twisted her own thoughts. As romances between Lola and the pack members are developing left and right, the woman who swore she wanted nothing to do with alpha is turning to them like a bloom to the sun. Tensions at work are at a tipping point and after taking the role of management’s spy, Lola’s in the crossfire if anything goes wrong. Sheltered with the pack of her dreams, at first it seems like the hardest challenge isn’t even staying safe from Indy. Lola is being hunted by her past, stalked with every step she takes. Brief Summary of Book: Lola and the Millionaires: Part Two (Sweet Omegaverse #3) by Kathryn Moon “Everybody knows it it’s one that’s in the news for all the wrong reasons.” Thomas has just published a brand-new book, “Concrete Rose,” a prequel that tells the coming of age story of Maverick Carter, the father character in “The Hate U Give.” In “Concrete Rose,” he’s a tough 17-year-old involved in a gang who lives in Garden Heights, “a neighborhood that could be anywhere in the world,” Thomas said. They have the ability to change the world, simply by changing the small world that’s right around them,” said Thomas, whose debut was made into a 2018 film and her follow-up is set to film later this year. “I want them to know they have value and a voice, and to use their voice. Novelist Angie Thomas has built a huge readership with her two award-winning, best-selling young adult novels, 2017’s “The Hate U Give” and 2019’s “On The Come Up,” and she has a message for her largely young audience.
